A terminal app that collects reusable AI agent skills from GitHub and local setups into one library, then syncs them to Claude, Codex, Cursor, Gemini and others.

The problem

Reusable AI skills are now a real thing across Claude Code, Codex, Copilot and others. Using them is still messy. Good skills sit in random GitHub repos, a few more sit inside a local agent setup, and keeping track means copying folders around by hand. I tried a shell script first. It needed more fixing than it saved.

What I built

skillctl is a keyboard-driven terminal app. Add a repo that contains skills, pick the ones you want from a fuzzy picker, preview their SKILL.md rendered in the terminal, and sync the selection to every agent directory you use in one command. It also imports skills already sitting in a local agent, so the stuff you use today ends up in the same library.

How it works

Go with a Bubble Tea TUI. The app scans configured repos recursively for SKILL.md files and namespaces each skill as repo/skill so names from different sources can't collide. Git handles clone and pull, rsync handles the copy to each target folder, and repos update in the background on launch. Config and state live in two JSON files.

Outcome

Open source under MIT on GitHub, installable with brew install akl773/skillctl/skillctl, with CI and GoReleaser builds.
